Laboratory Director, CLIA Certified High-Complexity Immunohistochemistry Testing

Job Summary

We are seeking a Massachusetts licensed, board-certified Pathologist to serve as the Laboratory Director for CLIA certified high-complexity immunohistochemistry (IHC) testing. In this role, the Laboratory Director will be responsible for following all personnel requirements for a high complexity CLIA certified laboratory performing IHC testing (i.e. Laboratory Director, Technical Supervisor, Clinical Consultant, General Supervisor and Testing Personnel). The Laboratory Director will be instrumental in completing all requirements for MA State license and CLIA applications as well as scoring and reporting two IHC markers for clinical biopsies. The successful candidate will work closely with the Translational Sciences team and senior management and have an opportunity to play a significant role in cancer therapy development. Employment will be in-person and on a part-time basis.

Key Responsibilities

The Laboratory Director will be responsible for 1) the activities required for applying for CLIA certification for a new histology laboratory that will perform high complexity IHC testing for use in patient selection for clinical trial enrollment and 2) scoring and reporting clinical samples. The Laboratory Director will be expected to understand and perform all personnel roles required to obtain MA licensure and CLIA certification. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, administering the technical and scientific operation of the laboratory, reviewing and approving test validations, verifying test procedures, establishing laboratory performance criteria and reporting test results, directing and supervising staff technical performance, ensuring quality operation and test result accuracy, and communicating with clinical sites on matters related to reported test results and ensuring pertinent information is included.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Massachusetts licensed MD and board certified in anatomical or clinical pathology
  • Preferred to have CQ license for New York state or eligible
  • Must be available to be on-site a minimum of 4 hours per week day and be readily available for personal, telephone and electronic consultation
  • Cannot be employed as a Laboratory Director at three or more laboratories
  • Familiarity with CLIA regulations regarding certification
  • One year experience in high complexity IHC testing preferred
